I lurked and posted questions to the forum for at least a year before I bought my C-25. That was a big factor in my choice. When I signed the papers for the boat, I sent the check to the association. That's the way it should be--it adds values to our boats.
PLEASE, you tightwads! This forum gives us so much, but it does cost some money to maintain. The few $$ that it costs to join the association are well spent. Anyone reading these fori (I am making this up, as plural of forum?) who is not a member should feel guilty.
I lurked around the site for a while, and learned quite a bit about my boat, and boating. It's because of what I learned that I decided to become a member. I was able to make my boat easier to use, which in turn made sailing much more enjoyable for me. The knowledge is worth much more than the dues that you pay.

One of the advantages of this forum is that through our participation or our lurking we can learn about our boats and get to know other Cat 25/250 sailors from around the country. The when we go Nationals we get to meet our friends face to face and already we have a friend. Lurkers lurk for many reason, but to receive maximaum benefit from our dialogues participation helps (i.e., asking and answering).
But as has been pointed out the forum costs the association $$'s and it would be great if the lurkers out there would send their checks and become active members of the association.
A great reminder, my membership expired or will do so in a few days and my renewal check will be in the mail tomorrow morning. It's the best 1/5 boat unit you can spend; an insignificant amount really.
Keep in mind this forum also acts as a huge advertisement for our association and our boats. I would guess that 20% of our membership read from or posted on the board before joining the group.
While I'm on the topic of advertisements If you purchase anything from Sail Net over the web, please do so through our links page. The small percentage we receive as an org helps to keep the membership costs down...This applies to both members and non members.
