Over the July 4th weekend, the lower unit on my 20-22 year old Honda 4 stroke, 7.5 h.p. outboard failed. I was able to sail the rest of the day (great wind that day)and ended up back in the bay where the marina is located and they came out and towed me in to my slip. When I took the motor to a local Honda dealer, they disassembled the lower unit and told me that the part needed is no longer available. I have tried everything except having a machinist friend of mine try to reproduce (or refurbish) this bad part. I have not been on the water since then and have tried every dealer within 300 miles and the Honda Region that included southern Indiana and Kentucky and am now suffering some serious withdrawal symptoms. Can anyone in this wonderful forum tell me where to buy the following part OR does anyone out there have an old blown up Honda that is willing to part with the lower unit? The part is the: Prop shaft holder; part number 41201-881-0002A for a BF75B motor.

I have already missed out on some great sailing weather and don't want the old girl to waste away this fall and winter without being sailed. It should be obvious that my concern is for "At Last" and not for me.

I'd be happy with 20 to 22 years of service from:

a dog
a wife
an outboard

My 25 year old C25? I expect another 25. (Same for the wife).

I don't have a parts book handy with the Honda part numbers.

Do you need the casting, or just the bearing that looks like it's pressed into the casting? You might be able to go to a bearing supplier and get a replacement that way, and press it back in yourself.

Another thought (I have the same kind of Honda outboard), I went in to my local dealer looking for the plugs for the battery connector. The guy said they had the male connector, but the female connector(the part I really needed), the part attached to the engine case, was not available any more.

After trying to fabricate something on my own, I went back to the dealer to ask if they had anything close that I could modify to make work. A different guy asked what it was for. I showed him. He said, "why don't you just buy the actual part?" "I was told it's not available any more." "Sure it is, I'll have it in tomorrow."

Don't know, but you might ask again. Or try the next closest dealer.

Steve - even up here in the great white north (Ontario, Canada) I can get one of these from the Honda Marine dealer.

I think the part number you posted should have a Z (zee/zed) instead of a 2 (ie. 41201-881-0002A should be 41201-881-000ZA )

Cost is $26.07Cdn which is about $20.75US

JM, I will double check the part number and if you are correct I would appreciate your assistance in getting this part. I can send you cash, money order or a check, or if you can forward the name and phone number (perhaps, even the e-mail address) of your supplier, I will order it directly from them. I have tried several dealers in the U.S. with the same negative results from all of them.

No problemo.. Let me know if you need the bearing that goes in the shaft holder.. Honda guy said its a separate part (so I'm assuming its not 'pressed' into the shaft holder).

JM,

Although we have not found the part that I need, you have spent a great deal of time and effort to help a fellow sailor, and I want to thank you. I will try to find the successor part and also get this thing to a friend fo mine who is a tool and die man. He said that he may be able to rebuild it with a bronze bearing so that it works again. I have a couple of friends on the west coast who are also trying to located one of the parts for me, as well. that will cover the mid-west, Ontario and west coast areas. If it's not available in any of those areas, it just doesn't exist.
