Last year I posted photos of the fun awards I made for the local sailing club we are in. A few years ago a friend and I decided that people who do not get racing trophies desirve to be recognized too. Ed and I came up with the Ed and Matt Awards. I think at our presentation night we get more interst in them that the race committee gets in their awards. Here are some of this years trophies. PS if finished them with spray poly urathaine not PAM. The first one, the "Cesil B. De Mills Award", I made is for a guy that started a "Friday Night Film Festival" movies projected onto a sheet on the side of the club house. Lots of fun for all.
The next pair went to two people. During our clubs annual regetta we had a dead cow float out into the lake and ended up by the boat docks an the startline. Two guys had to go out and tow the cow away, hence the "Bloated Bovine Award."
My attempt at multi media; wood, clay, and metal. the "Figurehead or Newtons Second Law Of Motion" Award. Proving that you do not jump off of a boat, you step. The force your foot exerts pushes the boat away and you go streight down, perhaps catching yourself on the bow.
The next award is the "Human Sea Anchor Award". There is a long story behind this one, lets just say it involves a broken beer bottle, a cut posterior of the skipper, drunken reentry to docks by a local DA. and the anchor who jumped off to stop the boat tangled up in lines sliding on the docks on his butt. Oh and the anchor drank the beer from the broken bottle too.
A bunch of us went to Huntington Lake CA. for the annual High Sierra Regetta. One fellow had many Dis-masters. The Thursday beer can race at our lake left him with out a mast. My wife insisted I make an addemdum to the award showing his truck that broke down on the way up to the lake. He spent the week end under the hood instead of sailing. He did race one race with us.
The "Table Search and Rescue" goes to a fellow from the same HSR weekend. We had a bunch of tables from the club house that were removed by the camp maitnence crew. Our man lead the search and recovery of the tables.
Every year we give a "Sand bar bob award" named after a club member that is a good sailor, but does silly things when people are watching. He is a high contender for the honers this year, but I think we might give it to someone else.
I have a few others for various qualifications. One of my favorites, though just a normal sailboat not something fancy is going to be our new catagory "The Adventurer Award". Given to a person that goes on many club trips with an adventurous spirit. The race committee also asked me to make the race plaques, I forgot to take a photo of them. I'll try and get one when we give them out.
