For a few years now, I have water collect under port seat next to waste tank which I sponge out into a bucket.
Initially, I found a leak thru port window in head and fixed that.
Symptom of this problem was water would drip down from window and collect next to wood seperating cabin from head. This created a moldy wood which now requires fixing.
The air vent on deck connects to waste tank. This could be a possibility for a water path. The water appears to come from under tank which could have a leak but I do not use the waste tankand so it is valved off. Therefore, I have ruled out the waste tank. But still I have not found root cause. The water is clear and appears to be rain water. Over a summer a few buckest of water collect so the leak is not huge but big enough to allow this much water to collect over the summer but where is the leak?? any suggestions

Alan,

In my opinion, the problem leak can be repaired by replacing the gasket between the vent and deck. I have the same problem but have not made the fix as yet.

Thanks

Sounds like the root cause. I will go ahead and replace the gasket.

I have a locker that always accumulates water in small amounts. There is no apparent leak, though it is near a thru-hull.

I cut a 2" hole in the locker wall and put a vent cover there to allow some ventilation. That seemed to dry up the water and keep the locker dry.

Im not sure of the tank you guys are talking about.???? On the port side of our boat we have a little cubby area and there is a tank like area, but no opening for it. We have had a leaky window there that we also just fixed. Is this a usable tank??? Shelf???Whatever it is????

I had the same problem, and after a couple of years of sealing various potential problem areas (windows, stanchions, genoa track) I resealed the shroud deck plates on the port side; problem solved. A couple of years later I had to do the same with the starboard side: problem solved. I was also accumulating water in the head area.

I think they are referring to the black water holding tank for a marine head, which is on the port side of Catalina 25's that have an MSD instead of a Porta-Pottie. #1205 had a porta-pottie when you bought her from me, so this tank issue doesn't apply to you. As for the portside window in the head compartment (the slider), these are notorious for leaking, and many owners seal them shut permanently or replace them with a new portlight. I think CD carries one (not sure what brand, probably Lewmar), that is almost an exact fit in the same hole as the OEM window.
