We have not official christened our boat with her name. No name has been painted or decaled on any part of the boat. There are so many boats we are finding with the name "Wind Dancer", especially in SF Bay. We are considering changing our boats name back to what we we're originally going to call her. Since the Catalina is more a cruising boat for us we thought changing the name was a change all around. But....the name just isn't us. We want to officially change her name to "Windy Britches IV". Is there any kind of ceremony that needs to be done???? Believe it or not it's hard to give up Windy Britches, it's just US! Our first sailboat was a Super Satellite 14', Windy Britches. Then a 17' Thistle, Windy Britches II (which we still have). Then our Capri 22, Windy Britches III. So.......it just seems appropriate. Even when we answer a call on the VHF, we're not sure what to say, it just doesn't flowwww. And you have to admit, not to many boats out there with that name.
From what I have read and heard, if she has never been named (or christened), there is no procedure necessary to protect you from the gods of wind and water. At the rechristening ceremony for the "At Last" formerly "Pizzazz II", we called upon the gods of wind and water to accept this newly named craft and upon the Almighty to protect all who sail upon her and then splashed the bubbly.
