After hauling out for the first time this past weekend, I decided to pressure wash the hull to get the crud off. There are several coats of bottom paint on the hull, resulting in a rough surface (somewhat similar to the surface of the moon ). I was using a rather cheap electric pressure washer, and noticed a significant amount of paint was coming off. If I rented a high power one, I figure I just might be able to blow off enough to get to a fairly smooth surface. Anybody try this?
I think there may be an orbital sander in your future.
The slickest bottom job I've seen was posted on this forum... the owner hired a guy with a 'soda blaster' (blasts baking soda instead of sand) to clean the bottom... it looked like a brand new boat when he was done. The soda blast didn't harm the gelcoat but took all the old paint off slick as a whistle.
