Anyone needing a downer may want to check out the C25 on ebay that did not make it threw Framcis. Hate to see a good boat looking so sad. Not sure the parts would be worth the price of the jack stands you have to buy with the boat. Goodby 86 C25.

I checked out the ad - the hull and deck are both severely damaged, the mast and boom are both broken, the sails are all shredded (I can't believe they were not removed from the boat or at least bagged and stowed inside before the storm!). Incredibly, the hull has not yet been pumped out; the engine is still half submerged - it must be substantially corroded inside by now (it's toast). The ad said that the entire interior has been stripped out and discarded, so no cushions, even the stove is missing. I would guess that most or all of the stanchions and pulpits are likely damaged, judging from the photos of the hull damage, so on the whole boat, the only hardware that might be salvageable is the chainplates, the propshaft (if it isn't bent), maybe the winches, and maybe the gudgeons. If the rudder didn't get smashed, it might be worth something, but I kind of doubt it's even still on the boat. In other words, the total value of what little hardware might be salvageable is probably not worth what it will cost to have the hulk chain-sawed apart and landfilled . The most honorable end for her - and all the other hurricane-wrecked boats - would probably be a final tow out to a sandy patch in 80' of water, and there to be sunk as an artificial reef.

I was in Punta Gorda two days after Charley hit. There were sailboats all over the place with shredded sails. The storm was predicted to go up the coast and hit in Tampa, so many people were lulled into a false sense of security. Plus many of the snowbirds seem not to strip their boats before leaving for the summer. Evenso, the most severely damaged boats were those not tied off between pilings on either side, or that had not thrown a heavy anchor to keep the boat from pounding against the dock, OR those that were "safely" tucked away on stands (most ended up on their sides with the hull popped).
