Ron,

I just replaced my 3 gallon tank with a new 6 gallon from West Marine.

It is the typical metal tank with a price tag of $94.00 plus some change. It was the only tank I could find that would fit and still give me the 6 gallons I wanted.

You wwnat a Tempo 6-gallon metal tank. It is on pg307 of the current West catalog. It is a tight fit but it does fit.

wow...if that price was for the tempo galvanized tank...it sure has gone up in price the last six years...though it was expensive in 96 at around $45.

I placed mine on some skids which I glued to the bottom of the locker....this keeps the bottom up and aired out and less prone to rust.

I use the Tempo 6 gallon plastic tank which cost me less than $20. It goes in but doesn't come out easy because of the lip on the inside of the fuel locker. Big deal . . . I leave the plastic tank in the locker and refill using a 5 gallon can. You can get the tank back out of the locker, but it is a pain. Oh, and you have to rotate the aluminum supply cap on the tank so that you can attach the hose in a manner that avoids the side of the fuel locker. A pair of pliers works fine.

We also got a plastic Tempo 6 gallon tank from West Marine in our fuel locker, but now that we've attached the fuel line we can't get it out again. Its a very tight fit! Of course we only use 6 gallons in a year if we motor alot so it really doesn't matter. One drawback is that the Tempo tank we have does NOT have a fuel level gauge.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Cathy, you can purchase a fuel gauge for this Tempo tank. It is an "extra" and Tempo makes you pay to get this feature. I believe WM has it in their catalog. Also, you should be able to get the tank out of the locker if you rotate that aluminum fuel supply fitting on the plastic tank.

You got that right, that's why I started using fuel stabilizer!

thanks, guys. i wanted to avoid a metal tank, but the idea of putting it on skids diminishes the rust concern.
