Here is a project to provide ventilation in the cabin. When we lived in the city, at night my dad would close all the windows except those in the bedroom, turn on the exhaust fan and we had cool air to sleep. My idea was to close up the cabin, open the hatch over the V-berth and turn on the fan in exhaust configuration to draw air through the cabin. Or, reverse the hatch and blow air into the cabin.
The fans are from any computer (12V 1.4 a). You don’t even need a tool to get them out of the computer, depress a couple of buttons and they slide out. Don’t know if it will work, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I have one of those pancake fans on board, but I have not installed it yet. I'm still looking into different fans for sound levels when running. The fan I have actually runs off my solar panel in full sun. To run off a single ships battery may give you a dead battery if left running all night. Maybe cooling air after sundown, on a timer would save juice. Let us know how things turn out. To conserve ships battery, I use a portable fan that runs off “D” cell batteries. Can be placed where needed and stows anywhere. Todd Frye
On my old boat, #1205 (now Debbie Behling's), I had a hand made plywood companionway hatch with a pair of 12 volt computer fans mounted in it, and running off the battery, to exhaust cabin air. It seemed to work okay, exzcept one winter when a 4 week long run of fog prevented the solar panel from keeping up the battery charge, and the two fans ran the battery flat, after which the relatively small 30 watt solar panel couldn't re-charge it, and the battery had to be taken home and recharged on a regular auto charger. There is no water or electricity service at Folsom Lake dry storage, so the only way to charge a battery on board is either from solar panels or from a portable generator.
