Santa sneaked out early and gave me a new condo on the river in Mystic, CT, with a slip about 50 yards from the door; and (today) a buyer for my current house. I expect that I'll be settling in over there in February. Passage will stay on the hard here until about May, and then will take a couple-of-day cruise up the shore to a mooring in Mystic--she can't get under the I-95 bridge to my slip. (There will, however, be something in the slip!) Easy sailing destinations from there include Block Island, Shelter Island, Montauk, the Connecticut River, Narragansett Bay, Spain (if I miss Block)..... Another nice feature will be ocean breezes all summer--unlike the conditions in western Long Island Sound in July and August.
As some of you know, I wasn't planning on making this move alone, but life is what it is... This new scene will be a big help, and Barb will be with me in spirit.
I hope your holidays are equally renewing...

Early Christmas indeed! Condo with a slip in Mystic...coool!
Although I've never been in that part of the country, places like Block Island, Shelter Island, Montauk, Narragansett Bay seem very familar due to my subscription to Cruising World and other sailing mags.
Congratulations, Dave! That is very exciting news, and I'm glad that it all finally came together for you. Make sure to post some pictures as soon as you can.
Tis the season, for sure. Santa parked this little baby in my driveway tonight.

Dave - thats great news. As you know I studied that area for my captains charting exam - I can't wait to sail there.
I think a Catalina 14 or 18 would fit into that new slip really well. Also, I've seen a Catalina 30 here with a mast tabernacle setup for getting under our bridge. Mast down and back up while motoring on the water in 5 minutes. It tilts forward so the boom stays on. What is the bridge clearance?
A home with a slip on ocean waters! What a dream come true!
Jim: The bridge is 25', but a power line is a little lower. A derelict Columbia drifted into it a few weeks back and put on quite a show! A Catalina 18 might work fine--a gaff-rigged catboat might be the best answer--or, as Frank suggests, a "commuter" boat to get to Passage (about 2.5 miles, I think). A tabernacle won't solve things--the water is also a little thin up there; and no, I'm not going to retrofit a swinger!
Buzz: The S&P Oyster House by the drawbridge is a nice spot, too--and we can tie up there.

I'll show you some windows and decks at Whitehall Landing... Just don't try to get there on Teasel--I'll pick you up with my "launch."
Seastream: Milford was a nice stopover for us a few years ago--pretty little village with nice restaurants at the head of the harbor. Having previously only known Milford from the I-95 perspective, I was pleasantly surprised!
Dave I was just thinking of you this past weekend while driving, wondering how you were doing this time of year. I'm glad to hear you have a new venue to be in. Merry Chirstmas to all. May Santa bring you something from the Chandelry.
