I know this is trivial to most but here in Wichita we have had a serious ice storm that has decimated 10-20% of the wood in the trees. Our city looks like a tornado hit our trees. We have electrical company trucks from 8 states here and over 40,000 people have been without power since Wed night. Cable and Telephone are out to more people than power because they hang lower on the poles.
We spent only one night in front of the fireplace, we have been lucky. However the prediction is that a lot of the power will go out again as the ice melts.

my black tarp did an excellent job, I banged some early ice off and had no build up, the raised mast and angle of the tarp made all the difference.

The neighbors lost a lot of wood.

Had one of those nasty ice storms in our area a couple of years ago. The folks on the outskirts of town got it the worst because it took the power company longer to get to them. You'll really notice it in the summer when the Kansas sun starts burning down and some parts of your trees will not be there to provide shade.

The pictures are beautiful. And free tree trimming to boot. Here in Southern California we have to pay to have our trees topped. How thick is the black tarp you put on your boat?

From easternmarine.com go to trailer parts online, enter #5235006
20 X 30 Green Poly Tarp (black on back) $44.95 heavy duty.
I do not know the gauge. I have bought a lot of trailer rollers from them, they had far and away the best prices.

I feel for you! And I know it's not trivial.
It happened here in 2000. Took out probably 40 trees on our 3 acre lot and the rest will show scars till they're gone.
Sounded like a war going on with the limbs snapping all night. Took me months to clean it all up. (Though I had firewood for the next couple of years!)
I was without power for 9 days. Sent the wife and son to relatives with electricity till the power was restored.
Funny thing is, my electric bill for that month was $1007, usually was around $250 for that time of year. Its a coop and they had to pay for the damage somehow.
It's a natural disaster which is not recognised by FEMA.
Frank, I hope you can get everything back to "normal" as soon as possible.

I hope you have some of JEAs (Jacksonville Electric Authority) trucks up there because we sure had a lot of everybody else here after the hurricanes. The pictures sure are pretty.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts. The ice all fell last night, it took most of the night and it sounded like a hailstorm made up of little bursts with silence for minutes in between. Today everyone is standing in mud with chainsaws in their hands. My neighborhood got power back around noon today.
My neighbor's pile.

My pile.
