Hi All, Just wanted to say I went out with Yahoo today out on Don Pedro. Ed showed my wife, son and me a great time. Wind and rain were great. Even had a video for my 5 year old to watch on the lap top. Ed you have done a great job settin up your boat and I hope I can do half the job you did. At least that is what Brigitte wants me to do.
Matt and/or Ed, how about some pictures of your day out on Don Pedro? I am quite certain I will have my boat launched there some day in the near/far future so would appreciate "seeing" what the lake looks like...especially would like to see pictures of both your boats out on the lake and what the slips/launching areas are like. Gary Norgan P.S. Matt, did you get that main up and working?
Gary, Matt and I were talking about posting some pictures. The only problem is that neither one us has had any success at this. Sooooo.... as they say "Film at 11:00". Matt's boat is on his trailer for the winter. The lake he sails, Lake Yosemite, is a small irrigation control lake just outside of Merced, CA. In the winter it is lowered to facilitate the draining of the irrigation canals that keep this part of the world the fruit and vegie capitol it is. The docks go dry from the end of October to the end of March or early April depending on when farms need water. There is a very active sailing club with Thursday evening beer can races and many social events. This past weekend, four or five of the Lake Yosemite Sailing Club traveled the 45 minutes from Merced to Don Pedro for the weekend. Since this is my home lake I invited Matt and family to come and use my boat for the day. I had the good fortune of having a capable sailor, his lovely wife and 5 year old son who I will probably call 'Gabby', as guests. Matt brough the beer and sandwiches (Sam Adams). The weather was brisk, gusty, and intermitant down pours. It was great being able to reef from the cockpit!! As usual when more then one sailor is in the same area, conversation was never a problem and I look forward to future visits and sails. I have included a new web site for Don Pedro for you to look at while Matt and I try to figure this posting of photo's thing. www.donpedrolake.com/index.html

Gary, Seems like a commute from Hemite would be a bit of a ride. I didnt' put my boat in this trip but the ramp is right by the marina and unless the water is low when you launch there should be no troubles. I don't know what the wait is for a slip, a few of the Merced club members have their boats there during the winter and they were able to get spots fairly easily. Ed seems to have a prime location in regards to ease of docking and departing. The marina has OK facilities, no showers unless you drive up to the campgrounds. On different lake trips I have taken, this is no great hardship because you have a big bath tub all around you. depending on the lake it could be quite cold though. This was my first sail at Don Pedro since the late 70's. Ed was a great host and made the trip much more enjoyable. The first time our radiator hose busted, I got sick, my brother jumped to the dock and landed on his elbow and broke the tip of his ulna. With these two trips as my sole expierence I would definitly say Don Pedro is a beautiful lake, the people I met there are terrific, and it would be worth a ride to go sailing. The only problem I had with the trip is my wife now wants me to get to work on doing more to fix up our boat to make it more like Ed's. Oh but I can't spend any money. In regards to the sail, I going to get out the repair kit and touch up a couple of spots and make due for a while. Matt almost off of the Hard C25 fin EC Rider
Ed - thanks for the website info. Printed out all pertinent maps and descriptions and will be doing some talking with my wife. We have spent many summer trips up in this area as my wife's parents have a cabin above Jackson on Hwy 88. We've traveled by Don Pedro on the 49 but never touched the water. Matt - thank you for your info as well. Will be in touch and maybe we can all sail the lake someday soon. Gary in Hemet (did you mean Hemitite? It's a type of rock as you might know already) (I prefer "hemerhoid" as a description of this place Would also like to see what Ed has done on his boat......pictures, yes
Matt, Ed: I am launching Classical Cat tomorrow at a small lake south of "Hemite" tomorrow (spring break time). It'll take about 30 minutes to drive from work /45 from home to go sailing. Skinner Lake known more for crummy fishing than a sailing venue. But at least I can SAIL!!!!!!!!! Slips are easy to get and not fancy by any means at $100 /month. Will let you know how my first sail in over a year went....and I will be sending pictures (hint) of my adventures.
