I'm considering trading my inflateable dink for a canoe. I don't really need the inflateable, and a canoe offers increased versatility in this area (exploring rivers, marshes and the like). Has anyone towed a canoe behind their 25 or 250? Other than decreased stability, what might the disadvantages be? It seems like it might tow considerably easier than an inflateable or hard dinghy.
Why do you say it does not tow? No keel and a smooth rounded bottom ... does this canoe have heavy rocker as well, as a whitewater canoe? I've towed lots of different canoes behind motorboats, and without a keel they tend to skate back and forth, but a proper tow harness eliminates most of this. I was just wondering if anyone had done so with their sailboat and how it compared to a dink. I was thinking of something along the lines a Grumman (now Marathon) 17' square stern - very little rocker, medium tumblehome, significant keel, and can be paddled or motored.
I like my slatted bottom 7' zodiac with electric trolling motor. I can motor around for four or five hours before having to charge the battery. Despite what everyone says, it tows well and does not decrease sailing speed noticably. The only drawback is that I have to register it every other year because it uses a motor for propulsion.
