While the existing marine head works well, the amount of water needed for a flush and the small volume of the holding tank can make it difficult to remain in sanitary compliance on an extended cruise. Has anyone gone to a permanent mounted SaniPottie such as the SeaLand product offered in West Marine (541049)? Any problems with the drain line, pump out etc. Does it fit well into the existing area?
Thanks

Ken

I don't have one of these...they are pricey, but...no water, no hoses, no odor, no holding tank:

What's a little electricity among friends...just tell the Admiral no peeing (or anything else) until back at the dock and hooked back in to shore power.

Ken, our boat came with a large capacity SaniPottie. I believe it is the one you refer to. When we got it the plumbing was a bit of a Rube Goldberg arrangement but I suppose it worked. There was a y valve on the deck fitting line to allow waste to be pumped overboard. The deck fitting was on the opposite side of the boat from the head. I removed all the plumbing lines and initially just installed the permanent vent line to the tank. We use a product with natual enzymes to control smell and they need air to work. For a while that is all we had. I found it no big deal to remove the tank at the pump station and either suck it out or dump it out depending upon what the facilities offer. I like dumping the tank better because I can flush it clean. I have since reconnected the pump out line directly to a deck fitting on the same side as the head but I have not used it. When we remove the tank to dump it it gives us a chance to clean the whole floor area around the head. We keep a jar of cleaning wipes on board for the purpose. We also use the opportunity to wipe the bowl clean. Since we are at the dock doing this all the trash gets taken off the boat. At the lake this summer the four of us could go about four days before we needed to dump the tank. One other related item. The pump does not do a great job of flushing the bowl. We keep a small perineal squirt bottle in the head compartment with water in it. When done using the head we just use it to flush the bowl clean. I'm not sure where you could get one of these bottles. They hold about 8 oz and have a small spray head on the top. You could beg one from someone who has just had a child.

Thanks for clearing up about what I was refering to. Yes, I am talking about the large capacity sanipotty that can be hard wired to the deck with stainless steel sliding clamps. Have you thought about plumbing it into the existing holding tank (if you have one)? That would seem to give an extra capacity and allow longer times between pumpouts. As my boat is 300 miles from my home I can't remember how large the area is where the usual marine head is, (seem to remember a small foot print due to the hull shape) Do you find there is enough leg room, and is yours raised up higher than the height of a standard marine head?
I did see a composting head on a Westsail 32, and the owner raved about the flowers his wife grows back on shore with the compost. As for the electric ones, I have only seen them on putputs.

Thanks a lot

Ken

Sorry Ken. I can get you the measurements for the Sanipottie but my boat is not a Cat25. Check Arlyn Stewart's web page. Has has installed a macerator pump on his Cat250. I think you would need to install a pump of some kind to get it out of the sanipottie and into the holding tank. If you want the measurements or info from the owners manual let me know.
