Hey, everyone...

I'm considering installing a 'proper' topping lift from Catalina Direct. Has anyone had experience with this rig? Do I have to drop the mast, or can I rig from a Boatswain's chair?
Thanks in advance...

This is an easy project with access to a bosun's chair. Enjoy the view.

I have this kit. It's great. Good components. I rigged mine with the mast down, so can't help you out on using a bosun't chair.
I like being able to raise up my boom way high when anchored out so I don't hit my thick skull.

I JUST INSTALLED THE CD TOPING LIFT MONDAY WITH THE MAST UP. SENT
THE KID UP IN BOATSWAINS CHAIR. THAT'S WHAT SHE GETS FOR COMING
HOME FOR SPRING BREAK AND ASKING IF SHE COULD HELP.
MINE IS A 1977. WAS NO PROBLEM.
TWO THINGS TO NOTE. WHEN I CALLED CD REGARDING THE MISSING CAM CLEAT
THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT UNUSUAL TO HAVE PARTS MISSING FROM THIS KIT.
SO CHECK IT CLOSELY. IF YOU PLAN ON RUNNING THE LINE TO THE COCKPIT
THE 1/4" LINE PROVIDED IS TO SHORT. WE USED IT MONDAY AND TUESDAY
AND AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT. IT IS REALLY NICE TO STAND UP IN THE
COCKPIT AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT RUNNING INTO THE BOOM.

Thanks for the info...
I'll be ordering the kit shortly. And yes, the view of San Diego bay is quite nice from 'aloft'.

1/4" line is much larger than it sounds, my halyards are 1/4". That will be a lot of line up there. I have been very happy with my old wire halyard section. It was free!
