The recient discussions, and the fact that my mast head light went out got me a looking...
Any one know what three pin connector Catalina used for their mast wiring. It appears that my connector is gummed up. Looks like an impropper install. I probably can fix it, but I noticed that the pins have oxidized a fair amount and it might be just as well to replace the whole thing. I just as soon not replace the receptacle. That looked somewhat ok.
It looked like a MS style "Cannon Plug." Mouser.com had something that looked close, but not quite right.
A replacement can be found at Catalina Direct. I installed one two years ago after I pulled all the wires out taking down the mast. You'd think after 15yars I'd know better. It was an hour long task to match up cabin wires/pins to mast wires/pins. I am much more careful taking the mast down now.
I replaced my plug and wires last year when the mast was down. I guessed at the configuration of wires. Now the anchor light works on the mast light switch. Hey, I can live with that! - Or I could get busy and switch the wires at the electrical plate.
Joshua, if your Steaming Light(at the spreaders)is still working you may only need to replace the bulb in the anchor light fixture at the top of your mast. Catalina Direct no longer sells the 3-prong plugs.
Since we need at least 5 prongs I certainly would not be looking for a three prong. Anchor Windex Steaming Deck Ground I use a four prong and have to have my anchorlight and my Windex light tied together; I sail at night with both on all the time. To me the two most important are the Windex and the deck light. We steam so slow it is not a lot different than sailing so big whoop and the masthead anchor light can be replaced by hoisting a light. So if I only had three you know what I would loose, THE STEAMING LIGHT!
Things actually work if I "wiggle" the connector. I was disapointed that I was dealing with copper pins. At least it looked like they were oversized and overkill. Also, I do not have a deck light. Just the mast light and steaming light. I have toyed with the thought of a spreader light, but in reality, when the sun goes down, I go asleep. My anemometer uses a seperate cable (not the best arrangment, but I can live with it). But the previous owner already drilled a hole in the cabin, might as well use it.
If I end up replacing the whole thing, I would go with more than 3 pins and re-run cable. Spares are always nice. I'd make the anemometer go thru the connector.
Do the connectors that Catalina Direct sell have gold pins? Or at least, not copper.
