Here are some pictures of the locker we replaced Mental Floss' vanity with. I purchased the louvered door 15"x15" from Pete at Thai Teak Marine on the web, had it shipped from Thailand and still saved a lot of money over WM. Still need to match up the color on the teak a little.
The shelf was extended by about 11" and ends 3" from the inside of the door to allow better access.
The top of the cabinet is covered with the same laminate I redid the galley counter top with. I reused the fiddle from the original shelf on the top
Looks good Tony. Your mod is very similar to our 81 SR/SK. I refer to this as 'the dresser' and think that storage trumps a second sink. We find that some 'wet ones' and some hand sanitizer in a pump bottle are more practical than a second sink.
So far the only use I have found for the sink is to close the thru-hull and pump water into the hose for "real emergency flushing" of the head until I service the hand pump on the head.
I plan on removing my vanity this spring but will only finish off the existing fiberglass with teak trim. I intend to leave it open as a hanging locker for fowlies, jackets, etc..
Does anyone know if this mod compromises entry in the Nationals?
I believe that question is for Duane, I know that I would like to leave my table on shore. Of course that is because I probably will not leave my refrigerator or air-conditioner on shore. It would be a hassle to remove them.
Tony, that looks great! And a lighted closet too! I bought some teak battens to do some little things with and you are right the color does not match. Is our old teak RED teak or did Catalina use a stain?
I think that Catalina used some stain or else the teak reddens with age. The PO had a ships clock on the bulkhead in the saloon which is now gone, it left a lighter color circle where it used to be.
I guess I should have said I built a new shelf to replace the original shallow shelf behind the vanity sink. I added about 11 inches in depth using the same height above the old vanity height so it is the center shelf in the cabinet. It leaves a gap of about 3 inches between the fiddle on the center shelf and the door to the cabinet. Hope I explained it a little clearer.

Too many Franks. Shelf extension info was for Frank G.
Frank H. I though long and hard about removing the light. Decided it would help watching the water tank fill tubes that go through the locker and seeing what is in the back of the locker is a bonus, plus I was just getting lazy at that point. Now the admiral wants a better light on the other side of the head where her mirror is.
