I got some pictures processed at Walgreens and had them put on a CD. (regular 35mm camera, not digital) I transferred the pictures to my hard drive but when i open them up, they are bigger than lifesize - about 1meg. How do i reduce the picture size to normal size ?? Do i need some type of special software ?? Is there a free on-line program i can download that will help me reduce picture size ?? Thanks for your help. Bob, Cat25,TR,3589.
There are two ways to skin dpi. One and what I believe to be the right way is to reduce the dots per inch to 72 dpi. That is what most screens are and any more resolution than that is wasted on a computer screen. The other is to play with the image size (which is what rookies do) until it looks right. The image size should be adjusted after you reset the resolution if your intent is to display photos on the computer. Your file sizes will then be optimally small. Of course with hard drives cheaper than gasoline it is also silly not to have at least 150-200 gigabytes of storage. IMNSHO Adobe Photoshop Elements is very cheap and will change your life. (Especially if you go get a digital camera.) All other programs are wanna-be's (except of course for big brother, Photoshop) Anyone looking for assistance in Photoshop Elements can find good help anywhere, any time.
Ditto on the Photoshop elements. It has a lot of the stuff Regular photoshop has and is user freindly. Most of the stuff it doesn't have you'd probably never use anyway. I got a version free with my 20d and I use it more now that I do Photoshop 8. One thing it won't do is let you convert from RGB to CMYK which is better for printing to a personal printer.
