My husband and I just purchased a new (to us) 1999 250wk. Our launch date is April 15, and this is the last weekend we have to tie up loose ends. I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me how to drain the water tank (the water has probably been in there for 1-2 years and the tank definately needs to be cleaned!). The tank is located under the V-berth. I didn't see any valves, and I pumped the sink for at least 5 minutes with no luck. The battery is not connected, but since there doesn't appear to be an electrical connection, I can't see where this would matter.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Melanie

congratulations.....we have the same boat, year and style. and our first names are the same...isn't that wierd? what number is your hull. mine is 409.. i think that the only way to drain the tank is to pump the sinks. i iknow this takes a long time, but that is how we do it. you will love this boat. good luck and have fun..

Hi Melanie,

Welcome to the family as well as this forum. Here is a link to that very topic http://www.catalina25-250.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=432
I guess your not alone. I wonder if a syphon pump (like one used to remove gas from a tank) would work? Or maybe even a large wet/vac. Just be sure to open the tank fill to vent or you may colapse the tank. Good luck and again welcome aboard

Thanks everyone, for your suggestions. Our boat is #390 - and yes, it is an odd coincidence that your first name and boat are the same! I don't suppose you'll be sailing the Chesapeake Bay also?

Melanie,

As you'll from the link Mark posted, I had the same question, but pumping from the galley sink didn't take too long. I emptied my (12 gallon) tank in less than 30 minutes. Good luck with your new boat.

We have a 2001 250WK. The way I emptied water at the end of season was simple under these conditions. Boat on the hard on trailer or cradle; need water hose and source of pressure water. Access tank, remove fill hose and unscrew elbow, connect water hose to hydrant, put water hose in tank all the way to bottom (sounds like you want to get completely empty), turn on water long enough to get air out of hose, turn off water, disconnect hose at hydrant end. Water will quickly siphon out of tank. You can then scrub out tank and repeat siphon out again. We had a C27 that had unbelievable wildlife in water tank when we acquired it so understand your need to clean it out completely.

If you can see it I think that means you can see the deck fill elbow on top of tank. Just remove clamp and unscrew the elbow, you have to stand on your head and reach to do this. My idea of cleaning in place is to use nozzle on end of hose several times siphoning out after each rinse. We do have WK, might be less access in WB.
Good luck, G. Stout 250 WK #538

Thanks Gordon I didn't think about the space issue in the WB vs. WK until after I made the post. I am pretty sure it is a snug fit from the bottom of the setee to the top of the tank. I will check.
Do you ever sail on Brookville Lake?

We had the same problem the first year. 1999 C250 wb- Papa's Boat II #370 I finally installed a water pump thanks to the info on the tips section. It works great for pumping out the tank as well as pumping in lake water to clean the boat or just cool off.
