A friend of mine just brought a C25 swing keel. We both have a C22 swing keel. I really liked the additional space. Would you think that the problems with the C22 swing keel would be about the same as with the C25?
Everyone loves their own boat. There has been a gradual evolution of the design over the production run. Many things were trivial and many things were substantial. I bought the boat that was for sale. I later discovered that my 82 had the "next generation" cockpit, in that it has the fuel locker in an independant locker out in the cockpit rather than on a shelf down in the sail locker. For me that is a significant change. However the 2000 boats built before the change do not seem to have blown up, so it probably does not really matter. The last of the series has an improved floor but very little teak and limited sheeting options. Many of us subscribe to a "Mark" series designation that brakes the production run into four periods. Mark I to late 81 heavy, well built Mark II to 86 new fuel locker Mark III to 88 black windows and short genoa tracks Mark IV to 90 new interior and new deck
Any boat as old as ours are is really a question of its condition over every other consideration. Go look at all the boats you can find and buy the cherry one.
Just did one this winter, c25 that is. Went very well. Replaced the pin, did work on the keel, and found a small troublesome leak in the process. I believe fresh water boats fair far better than salt when it comes to swing keels.
