I have replaced my upper shrouds with new ones from CD. Now I need to safety wire them to the end caps on the spreaders. To those of you who have done this, are there any tips you'd like to share? My concern is the wire wraps creating a bind on the cable. I thought about laying a toothpick on the shroud, making my wraps, and then tossing the toothpick. Any ideas?
I had to drill the spreaders on mine. This season my spreaders are wobbly and it seems to be due to the cotter in the base holding them away from the bottom of the socket. (I had not noticed this before this year.) I wish I had flipped mine over, used the existing holes for the swagging wire at the caps and drilled new base holes that let the spreaders bottom out in the socket.
I believe thay are supposed to have a little wobble... Once you put the shrouds on everything should tighten up nicely. I too noticed the lack of cotter pin holes.
At the spreader ends, the retaining wire is supposed to be loose enough to allow the wire to move a bit, since the tension needs adjustment. The flexibility of the spreader boot allows for this as well.Fair winds, ron srsk Orion SW FL
