The third item discussed last night (by the officers of the NA - 5/31)was do we want to open NA Association membership to owners of Capri 25's? At the present time an owner can join the National Association as an Honorary Member, pay dues, receive the Mainsheet, but not vote and hold office. The officers are drafting a revided by-laws and have started talking about Catalina 25 Built boats.

We are interested in your thoughts before we finalize our recommendations and present them to you with the annual elections.

I can't think of any good reasons why not.
After all, it's a Catalina and it's 25' long.

I agree with Clambeach, but I wonder if we should provide that all members can vote on National Association business, but that an owner can only vote on racing rules changes for the class of boat that he or she owns. I'm not sure we should be voting on changes in each other's racing rules (although we can certainly express our opinions on them on the forum.) My reason is that it's foreseeable that someday the C25s and Capri 25s might be racing against each other, on a handicap basis, for some kind of overall trophy at our national regatta. If we race against each other, we shouldn't be able to influence each others racing rules.

I think that Steve has a very valid point regarding the racing rules and I heartily concur.
It is a great idea to have the Capri 25's as part of our Association. Maybe we should change the name to "Catalina 25-footers"!!

Steve,

Excellant point. That would help assure that the Capri 25's remain one design while the 25's and 250's continue to allow the kinds of variations that we have. Thanks for the suggestion.

As you all know my thoughts on this merger, I do want to be a part of some kind of a National Association. I love my Capri 25 and have put allot of work into her. I have gained a great knowleage of how the boat is put together, and what it takes to fix a large hole in the side of the hull. That being said, the only thing the I would like to see is a seprate forum for the Capri 25. The Capri 25 is a racing boat, and the feedback that I have gotten on the Yahoo site is that the three boats are very different. I dont have all the bells and whistles that the 25's or the 250 do have, but it is a Catalina, and the boat is in need of a National Association. As for the rules, and setup a seprate voting on modifcations would have to be in place. I have set my Capri 25 up to the WYC specks, and really have to comply with these rules if I ever want to go and race up at WYC. I think that this would give our Capri 25 allot more regatta's to be able to race in. I would have no problem with forwarding the url I have purchaced to point to this site, www.capri25.com I just want my members to have a home, to feel like they can have a place to read and learn tips about the boat, and post there views and thoughts. Now with that being siad I will leave it up to you all, I hope you have posted some info on the WYC site, and include them in the topic.

Next - We have 5 Capri 25 here at Windycrest and I was wondering on how to start a fleet. 3 of the 5 race, and I didn't know how many boats were needed to start a fleet. We race portsmouth handycap, and we always have a Capri 25 in the top 3 for the final series. My boat has been on the trailer over the winter and I am planning on having it back in the water in July.

Thank you again for the information, and I will pass this on to the Yahoo members.

Our requirements for the awarding of fleet status is that the group have a minimum of 3 Catalina25-250 Association members. Our newest fleet is a Catalina built 25 foot fleet; yours would be as well. Of course you can have your own forum. This has been a purely Corinthian effort on our part, there is no benefit to the current association beyond the opportunity to get to know more sailors with a love for the boats Catalina Yachts built for us to sail.
One thing about this forum is that the members become aware of the "warts and all" of our designs. Everyone appreciates the help and learns from the collective wisdom. Those things are not specific to a design, those things are common to everyone; our boats may be shaped different but our desire to maintain them and have them hold their value is universal.

Chris,

If all this happens, we would have a Capri 25 forum, and would encourage fleet development to be open to all Catalina 25 Built boats. If your local fleet with five Capri25's wanted to draft fleet by-laws for a Catlina 25 Built fleet, including Capri 25's, Catalina 25's and Catalina 250's and at least three of your members joined the NA we would be opening to awarding a fleet for Tulsa.

We have tried to initiate dialogue with WYC with little response (read that no response). But, I will continue and your suggestion to post on their forum is a good idea.

Don, I think that Windycrest had at one time a Catalina 25 fleet, I am not for sure, but I would put my money on it. As far as the bi-laws go Can you send me some more information on this. I am new to the politics of sail boat racing, and fleets. As far as sailing a boat I can do that OK, I race every other weekend, and I know the other Capri 25's here at the club would be in, I also can get all of the 25/250 to sign up, and I will build a really nice fleet page thru Windycrest, I am their webmaster, and have built all of their pages. Just shove me into the right direction. My work email is mckillip at valornet.com. Thanks again for looking at taking us in, The National site is now down and no longer exist...... I really like how WYC asked the yahoo group what we thought. (nothing) Keep pushing them, they might give way, or not.

Here is an Email that I had sent to the fleet captian of WYC last week.

To: Brucetmm@comcast.net

Subject: Capri 25 National Website - National Association

Bruce,

My name is Chris McKillip I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and own Capri 25 Hull #17. Its in my deepest regret that the National
Capri 25 Website has been let go. www.capri25.net The reason that I am writing you all at WYC is that the Catalina 25/250 National
association is willing to pick up the Capri 25 in their association. They are willing on giving us our own forum, Letting us supply tips, fixes,
and information about the Capri 25 into the Mainsheet magazine . I am writing you because I believe it is your duty as fleet captain to
let your sailors know what is about to happen for the Capri 25. I currently run the Yahoo web site group for the Capri 25, I started this
group or forum because I needed questions answered about the Capri 25. I understood that the forum is open to all Capri 25 owners, but
had found out that there was only a small percentage of people willing to give out information about the Capri 25. I will expect the same
from your Capri 25 members as well with the Catalina 25/250 National Association picking us up.

Bruce I say US, because I feel that WYC needs to be involved in this merger, I would hope that you would feel the same way about a
merger. Its going to happen, and you need to be involved. Here at Windycrest we have 5 Capri 25's that race around the season 3 that
race every weekend. We are in the process of starting another fleet for the Capri 25's that will fall under the Catalina 25/250 chapter.

Here is some of the information that has been posted on their website, please feel free to share this with your members.

Bruce, Thanks for your time on this matter, I know that you will do the best thing for your fleet, I am not asking you to do anything your members dont want to become a part of. I want everyone at WYC to know that they are an important part of this merger and I would like them to have the chance to become part of it. At the very least you should have your members sign up for the Yahoo Capri 25 group.

Thank you, Sail fast

And here is the reply I got this morning back from Bruce.
June 15th, 2005 11:35 am

You may get this reply twice. If you received the first one it has a bad from e-mail address.

Thanks for the update on what is happening in the Catalina 25/250 group. My thoughts on including the Capri 25 in the Catalina 25/250 organization are that it would be a good thing. As you have seen the local participation in the Capri 25 is low because there are not many go to the website. They figure that if there is something important they will get a telephone call from the fleet officers. I have had occasion to look at the Catalina 25/250 website and it looks very organized. The other plus this would appear to have is if they include the Capri 25 in their regattas it may get more Capri's to attend the ones that are closer to them. We received only two inquires for the Capri 25 regatta last year. We assumed that was because of the location.

The has been some interest in the invitation for the 2005 Catalina 25/250 National regatta. Unfortunately those that expressed interested do not want to miss the 2 of 18 races that make up our Championship series in order to go. On the positive side, there has been discussion on allowing a boat to go to a Capri 25 event and apply average race scores for the missed races. This what the local J24 and J22 fleets do for participation in out of town J events. So if the Catalina organization is patient more participation from our club should develop.

You will notice I sent a copy of this reply to what I believe is the e-mail for Don Peet the Catalina 25/250 commodore. If the e-mail address is incorrect could you forward it?
