I am a new owner of an'83 standard rig. I am wondering if anyone can tell me where my waste holding tank may be located. I have a porta potty. I would like to fill my water tank and start using the sinks but i am concerned that it may not be easy to drain my waste tank. as suggestions/tips would be appreciated since i am new to this.

CKS,

If you have a porta-potty, then the waste tank is integrated within the porta-potty unit. To empty it, unless you have a pumpout, you'll have to remove it from the boat and transport it to a proper dumping facility.

As for filling your fresh water tank, it is a totally separate system and filling the fresh water tank will have no bearing on any head/porta-potty system.

Oh, congrat's on the new boat...Welcome to the fleet!

your sinks drain into the water not to a holding tank so go ahead and use them.

Welcome to the forum, cks.
This is the best place to learn everything about your boat! Don't be timid asking for advice. Many of the members have contributed generously to our mutual knowledge. (Thanks again, folks) Be sure to go to the spot where you can read and print the Owners Manual. Click on the many pics. What you find will answer a thousand questions, even if the prior owner(s)may ahve modified things.
There are pictures of the plumbing, etc.

thanks for clearing that up. for my own education, if the sink water drains into the water where would the discharge opening be located? also, it appears that there was antifreeze placed into the hoses for the winter (i am in connecticut). should this be flushed?

I am a new owner of an '84. I also have a portapotty. My boat has 2 drains, as I have a vanity (do you have a vanity as well as a sink in the galley?). The vanity sink drains under the V-berth just in front of the keel. The sink and the ice chest drain right under the stove.

You probably have a stop cock valve too. If it is pointed up and down, it is open and the water will drain out. In the other position it will be closed. I would guess this is the position of your stop cock if it had antifreeze in it.

Hope you enjoy your new boat as much as I have!
