Tim: I use my boat a lot like you plan to: 3 weeks in the Juans, weekend trips locally, etc. I have two marine deep-cycles in the starboard locker. I use a Yamaha 9.9 electric start. I have NEVER run short of electricity, and I have an Autohelm 1000.
<font face='Arial'>We just use a single battery and only go out a couple of weekends each month when not racing in the summer. This week I had an electric start installed so that may change. I'll keep you posted.
Your four 6VDC batteries should be set up like my two 12VDC are. So, you have a backup in case one battery fails. So, do you need all four??? For day sailing, I'd say no. For overnighting on weekends, I like the security of the second 12VDC
I presently own a Cape Dory with the same amount of batteries-and never have a problem in running out of "juice"! Now the former owner installed an Adler Barbour Frig system, Microwave, Inverter, Radar, TV and VCR, Autohelm, Maxwell 500, etc. etc
I did the San Juans this past summer. I have a C-25 with only one 12 volt battery. I never ran out of power. But then again if I wanted ice or electronics I would look for Ken (Grin). Realy all you need if you do go is your two six volters. Combined they
Doug is right!! If you are in San Juans, just bring your glass, I can provide all the ice you need (in the glass)-Look for Dragon Tale (a Cape Dory 28.)
Thanks for the help. I didn't think I needed all four. I "borrowed" a friends ComPac 27 a couple years ago in the San Juans, I loved them. We will be there on the C25 this time in August. Maybe I'll catch up with some of you. Look for "Surprise".
