Well, as way of update on those interested, I've officially sold my '81 C25 SRSK, congrats to the new owner and I will certainly point him to this board!!

My wife and I have decided on a C30, but in talking to one broker, he has a Newport 30 that he says is VERY similar, and in looking at pictures, I can see why. Does anyone have any experience with Newports, good/bad/etc? Should I just try to find the right C30??

Thanks for the input.

I have been looking for my next boat as well. ( Aren't we all really? )
I really like the Newport 30. They have a more finished looking interior than the C30 (teak sole etc) and everyone I've talked to loves their sailing ablilities. Also, the Ranger is a similiar boat but older.
Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

C30's are great boats... but indeed there are lots of great designs to choose from in the "upper 20's to Low 30's" each with their own advantages and drawbacks.

Some fast and sleek, some slower with more room... some fully bluewater capable, others are strictly bay and coastal boats... maybe too many choices!

In this size range, it really pays to do some research. Different models and vintages can have 'known issues'... bulkhead separation, keel worries, hull flex and delamination, blisters etc. Googling around for owner sites and owner associations can be very enlightening as to what to be on the lookout for.

Some Venerable designs that pop up... Cal 29, 30, Ranger 33, Olsen 30 (a very fast boat), Pearson, Alberg 29 (like our resident Triska), and of course, the C30.

In short, it really pays to take your time and look around. Like falling in love, I think you'll know when you meet the 'right one'.
