While we're on the topic of sail handling devices, I was wondering if anyone who hanks their sails on uses this SailClip? And does it work well? www.sailclip.com Thanks
I guess if you're a racer and you need to be able to change fore sails quickly - this could be an advantage. It obviously looks like you'd spend more time overall by the time you're finished loading the hanks into the rack - but you'd then be locked & loaded for a quick change over. I think I'd opt for the dual-slotted track that runs the entire length of the forestay - which allows you to put a second foresail up before you lower the other - again for racing apps.
I've have never even seen this things until now. Getting them off just as fast though seems like its more difficult than it shows. On the Evelyn we use a product called Tuff Luff. But then again it requires a different luff on the sail than the hank ons use.
Fellow Sailors Once you fold your headsail and load it in Sailclip that sail can be put on your forstay in less than 5 seconds also when you drop that sail it flaks itself on the deck, I straighten it out, unclip the hanks and reload my Sailclip right there on foredeck, then I can fold and bag the sail (It's been almost two years since I've folded a sail on the dock using two people). Changing sails shorthanded or singlehanded has never been easier, drop one sail put the otherone on above it and hoist. I've been saved more than once by having a bagged sail with sheets attached on the foredeck ready to use in case my motor stops with practice you can have a sail up in no time if you don't use the sail you don't have to refold it!

Friends: I haven't bought one yet, but I met the guy who invented the Sailclip last summer on a week long race on the Columbia River. He demonstrated it for me on his boat, a Ranger 33, I think it was. He sailed single handed and it looked pretty slick to me. If I continue racing I am going to get one (maybe two!) Gary
