Hi all.
I'd love to replace my forward-most factory ports with ones that open. The factory ones are leaking and I was planning on just re-sealing them with the Catalina Direct kit, but I thought I'd at least explore replacing them since I'd have them out anyway.

In searching the archives here I haven't seen where anyone notes that they've replaced their windows with opening ports. I suspect it's not possible on the aft four windows because of the curve in the cabin, but the cabin sides in the area of the head seem (to me) flat enough. Comments?

If it is possible, does has anyone have experience with the Beckson ports sold by West Marine? Are there any other replacements (that open) that would work but aren't $200 plus per window?

Mine open on my '87 but they were there when I bought the boat. I think they are Lewmars. They're great for letting a nice cross-breeze into the boat and have little removable screens. Unfortunately, mine are all "crinkled" looking (for lack of a better term) so I'm interested in reading the responses to your question too.

Somewhere along the way there was a thread about installing one in the v-berth hatch cover, allowing air and light in without raising the hatch and possibly interfering with the jib sheets.

I am in the process of installing the Bomar N2000 series opening ports. I chose the N2512 ARSA which required me to cut the opening 1" wider. The Bomar N2414 opening port would fit without any cutting, at least on my 77 it worked out that way. I went with the wider window because it centered up between the bulkheads better. I purchased them from Defender. The ARSA means Arctic White Powder Coat and Smoked Grey Lexan ports with screens.
I called Bomar Customer Support and had a long talk with them. There are several options and they will give you the part numbers to order exactly what you want. I can post some pics if you'd like.
There is some information about the on-going project [url="http://home.wmis.net/~dhapp/portlights/portlights.html"]here.[/url] The window frames are heavy cast aluminum and the lexan is 1/4", I think.
I really like them. They were 2bu's each. If you want the smaller ports they are a little cheaper and if you want them in aluminum and not powder coated you will save even more money.

I installed the N2515 ASRA, not the N2512.

I'm not sure if the plastic window part is Lexan or acrylic.
