I keep my boat in the water year round at our local marina. I haven't seen one drop of water in the bilge since I've owned it. For peace of mind I'm thinking of installing an automatic bilge pump. I've seen the ones that come on every 2 seconds and hunt for water, those seem like a waste of battery juice. I'm looking at the type with the built in float switches. What would be a good size to get 500,750? would a 1100 be over kill?
I have the manual pump that comes standard on the 250, never used it, don't even know if it works. I've heard that some people have hooked up electric pumps to the suction hose of the manual. will this work?

I installed a 1200 with a seperate 'no moving parts' electronic float switch. (couldn't find an integrated unit I was happy with. To control the pump I purchased an off-on-auto bilge pump switch and wired it into it's own fuse-protected circuit back to the battery. If I was doing it over again I'd install an alarm too... so the patrol at the marina could hear it.

Hi Bruce,

That sounds like the perfect setup. Would you please elaborate a bit on how to set up a system like that? I think this would be a great project to add to our Tech Tips.

I've been looking at one of these to use for the switch. It has the audible alarm. I don't know if it could be heard outside the boat when it's all closed up, but I expect it would wake you up.
