While I'm well into my hull scraping project, sitting there scraping gives you alot of time to think about other stuff. I was thinking of maybe replacing the standing rigging since the mast is down. I looked on Catalina Direct's website and could not find any standing rigging listed.
I would like to replace it with high strength rigging since I will be sailing in the Florida Atlantic and we get thunderstorm squalls that come up in the afternoon in the summer. I want something that I can trust to not break on me. I'd like to use high strength cables with backing plates under the chain plates. Anyone know what's the best, where I can get it, and how much it normally costs?
Thank,

Catalina Direct definately has standing rigging. As a matter of fact, their last email indicated that they would have to raise the price after July 31st because the cost of stainless was up. I would give them a call, their online web store takes a bit of getting used to. Go to their home page, then online store, then on the left Catalina 25 then subcatagory rigging, then subcatagory standing rigging and click through the "next 9 products" a few times. I believe you are looking for part # E1831, unless yours is a tall rig.
Not to confuse the issue too badly, but it's possible to make up your own standing rigging. I would just about bet that the prefab stuff from Catalina Direct is 302/304 alloy, which is less expensive and slightly stronger than 316 alloy initially. However, the 316 alloy is much more corrosion resistant, especially down here in warm coastal waters where we are. So, after some exposure to the elements, the 316 alloy retains more strength than the more rapidly deteriorating 302/304. I was able to find some 1x19 in 316 alloy from Brion Toss that proof tested at very nearly the nominal strength of 302/304. I combined that with Sta-Loc swageless terminals and Hayn SS/bronze open body turnbuckles. I'm very satisfied with the results.

Hi Leon,
Thanks for the tips. I would certainly be interested in making my own if it would save on cost. I'll send you an email if your address is listed.

PS: I did find CD's rigging on thier website. ~$500 for new rigging.
I picked up new rigging at the sail loft. We replaced everything with the same diameter as the for and aft stays. The price was extremely reasonable. The loft I went to happened to be Sobstad but they have rigging at most of your larger sail lofts.
Dave I used the Catalina Direct rigging kit. I have ** no idea ** whether it is 302, 316, 3xx, or whatever but once the old rigging was off it was a pretty straightfoward task to re-rig with the CD kit since they provide everything you need. I did this in March this year - before the price went up I think.
I don't know how their price compares with custom rigging but it was pretty painless.
