Our first sailboat was a Catalina 22. Named it Domino Effect because we quickly realized it was only boat #1.
Second boat was Noeta, a real nice Catalina 25. We learned to sail on Noeta. We learned to cruise on Noeta. We learned two adults, two teenage girls, and two weeks in the Islands is tight on Noeta.
Sold Noeta early this Summer and went shopping for something in the 30s. Looked at dozens of boats. Some were built great but had horrible creature comforts. Others had great creature comforts but were built poorly. The boats that had the best overall balance of build, comfort, and style was the Catalina 30s and 34s. The 30s fit our slip and budget. The 34s (with real doors!) fit my crew's idea of a proper boat.
Meet Tamu Manu. She is a Catalina 34 and is currently on a truck enroute from the Bay area to the Puget Sound. After a proper ceremony, she will be renamed Noeta.
Frank and the rest of them at Catalina make a nice boat. I hold them responsible for my ongoing poverty....
Congratulations Doug, Please keep us updated on your impressions, especially wrt liveability and creature comforts. I am under similar pressures from my crew, so I see an upgrade in my not-too-distant future.
Congratulations, Where do you (or where ARE you going to moore her? Also, if you don't mind us asking, how much was the shipping? Puget Sound Sailors want to know. Chris
Way to go Doug! Some good friends just moved up from a C30 to a C34--their home in VT is further from the boat (still in CT), so they wanted a little more "liveaboard" space for when they come down. I'm afraid to look!
Hmm, sounds like a familiar story: we had a C22, a C25 and now I'm the secretary for the C34 Inetrnational Association. Welcome aboard. Note I still follow this board, which is still great. Join us at www.c34.org. Also try the Forum Discussion Messgae Board on that website.
Hey Stu, Glad you are still sticking around. I'm sure I'm not the only one with a triple dose of three foot itis. Are there any links that you know of which would give us a quick lesson on what to look for in a C34, or a brief history of the various models/design changes. I am also interested in how the boat does sailing the Carribbean. Thanks
Congratulations! Most of us envy you. I bought a new boat, too, but it's called a house (Cathy, we're still in Glen Allen, but the house is now entirely ours rather than a provided parsonage). I'm spending far more time in Lowe's than West Marine, I'm afraid.
Go to www.c34.org. On the Home Page, click on FAQs. They're NOT FAQs about the website, but the boat. You'll find answers to your question right at the top.
I had it scheduled. Then the boat arrived a day late, and the spreaders were bad, and the lift at the yard couldn't lift the mast.... Instead of hitting the Lats and Atts party on the way to the Islands I spent a week on the hard in Des Moines trying to put a boat back together.
