February in the Northeast was the warmest on record. Now we're going to pay for it. Driven by a much warmer than average Gulf Stream the storm is predicted to dump between 12-24" of snow with strong winds. The weather is more volatile than ever.
Passage is covered (I resisted the urge to prep for Spring) and I'll be checking today to be sure my tarps don't have any gaps or pockets where snow can accumulate.
Since I removed my crib boards to sand and refinish them, I need to tarp over the companionway, otherwise I may get some snow down below.
The wind is going to be the problem. Winds at 40+ and in some areas 60, we're talking power outages and downed trees. Hope all in the E and NE are prepped and stay safe.

I hope that "12-24" is a little hyperbolic... The forecasts I see are 8-12" all along the CT coast, and could change. But the winds are expected to gust to 50. Fortunately we've had some like that recently, so hopefully the trees are already somewhat "pruned". But 50 with 8-12" will make a mess.

It's all a cruel prank being played on us mortals: easy winter that gets everyone looking forward to an early spring and then wham! tons of snow . . . . . the worst part is we shovel, snow-blow, plow it away and then two short weeks later it's all gone. Od'e to New England!

Last I saw was 12-18 nor- easter. Tuesday...SNOW DAY! Blame it on that rodent! I've learned over the years not to touch the boat until April. May 1st launch.

Well now it's up to 24" and winds up to 60... TV is showing people out buying snow shovels.. Makes me wonder what did they do with the old one, Throw it away?

I, too, always wonder about the rush on shovels and snowblowers before a winter storm.

kinda like the rush on grocery stores were people buy six weeks groceries including frozen food for a storm that will last a day or two and my cause loss of electricity for refrigeration and cooking -- makes one wonder . . . . .

I traveled in to work today. 25 miles west of DC (in VA), there is about 2" combination of wet snow and some crust. Highway in to work (DC) was at 40mph and semi-blacktopped inside the beltway and mostly blacktopped in DC but there is slush and snow in the curb lane and sidewalks have ~ 1-2" snow. Many wimps decided not to come in and the Fed Govt issued a 3 hr work start delay but I was in at 615am. Does not look like a good day to go sailing, otherwise, we have passed the worst of it whatever you call this...the blizzard of 2017 ? Acknowledge you guys have it tough, north of here.

...although there's a simple solution for preserving the food after a winter storm... My issue is staying warm--I'm on a heat pump. (But I have my butane stove from the boat. )

Over here, the storm turned to rain (lots of it) and wind (lots of it) by the time 3-4" of snow was down. Maybe spring is sneaking in... (But everything is freezing tonight.)
