The Temp has dropped and the snow is starting to fly . Does anyone know the size of the hole in the top of the water tank ? I believe it's has a hexhead bung I've read . I need to buy a hand pump to empty it tomorrow morning and there's a hand bilge pump available but I think I need a min of 2" access to putbthe body of the pump in .
Angus: Your nearest "big-box" home improvement store probably has something readily available. In addition to the drill-motor rotary pump (particularly useful if you keep a charged battery-driven hand drill on board), an alternate option might be a hand-held piston-type pump (like a bicycle tire pump with ports on both ends with hoses to attach to them). It's good to have one on board, for the last 3/4" or so that the submersible electric pump won't reach or for getting into other tight places that a submersible can't get to. I bought a piston-type hand pump at an auto parts store; it's made for fuel transfer, and I use it to safely drain old, unused gas out of a portable fuel tank to use it up in my truck and refill the portable tank with fresh gas periodically. The pump saves having to start the siphon action by sucking orally (with the inevitable accidental mouthful of gas), but then the gas continues to siphon on its own through the pump. It makes oil changes a lot safer, too. And I've used the same pump for bilge water pick-up, draining & re-lubricating it afterward. It'll require more effort than a powered pump, but it's always available when you're away from the dock.
The trouble with a destination - any destination, really - is that it interrupts The Journey.

So the access was 3" , I picked up a manual bilge pump with a 1 1/4" discharge hose . It worked well , tank was full ,emptied it quickly into a bucket then overboard. I did order the drill attachment pump as well for future use. Thanks for the input . Angus
