So sorry about that, Sirs!!

I wish I were retired, but alas that is not the case. My kids are still in elementary school(1st and 6th grade) and I'm many years away from sailing off into the sunset.

My kids are done--one is now in the Peace Corps in Mali. Tuition bills and the market have set my retirement plans back some... I tend to drop in on this place during "coffee breaks" at my office (when I'm in town)--nobody much to talk to there. I think I'll reregister and start the count over--so people will refer to me by my first name--and cut back on the noise.

No way! You don't want to start over, Admiral Dave!!
Besides, someone's got to go for a record here....
1000.....now that's a goodly number. YES! Go for it, Dave. You ARE the closest. Just DO IT.
All honor and glory goes to those who have the courage and dedication (and computer time) and GUTS...yes, GUTS to do the impossible!!!!
I, however, will never attain the ULTIMATE glory...me, with my (let me check again) paltry (I think I spelled that correctly) 39 posts.
Think of the honor. Think of all those you'd let down if you gave up, RESTARTED!?....no, it is too much to think about. You must persevere (sp?) against all odds; you must show us (peons) (sp?) how to reach even higher.....(40?)
Just say you'll be the admiral, Admiral Dave!!!!!!

(Ah, rats! I should have split this into 12 pieces...then I'd really BE someone ---What comes next?)

You convinced me--I can't take this--I just tried to re-register, but it won't take a new registration with an already used e-mail address! WHAT IS THIS--A REVERSE-MUTINY??

Now I'll have to change ISPs!

Or, I could just go below and let the rest of you people catch up...

Don't go below your too valuable an asset to this forum besides that it would take us too long to catch up @ the rate I post you would be below for years. Hope you were just kidding. Sombody insulted John Vigor (author) on the CCDA site a while back and I haven't seen a post from him for some time. Kept hoping he would stop by the 25/250.

My boat is in the water at last .
Backed the trailer down the ramp this afternoon at Lake Perris here in SoCal. Lots of ski boats hogging the ramp trying to get out. Probably irritated a bunch of them to see this tall masted C25, wing-keeled, sitting high on a 64 roller Trailrite backing down the ramp.
Tough!! Vehicle after vehicle pulling up between me and the ramp, then quickly backing down ahead of me. After about 45 minutes of this I just started backing down and they scattered. No more Mr. Nice Guy. It actually took me half the time to get away from the dock on the ramp compared to the powerboaters.

Takes me 35 minutes to drive from home to the slip and probably 20 minutes from work....I leave right after work!!!
Went today around 6:30 and found a very small amount of H20 had seeped around the base of the impeller housing. Gads!! Something to worry about... just about 1/4 cup H20 in the bottom up front. Need I worry? Maybe a question for the "general forum".

Hmmmm. . . . is it possible that one's rank in the Sailor's Forum is like the relationship of boat size to how often the boat actually moves? You know, the bigger the boat, the more it stays at the dock . . . the more time people spend typing into the Sailor's Forum, the less time they're actually sailing?

You might be onto something Brooke ...

Actually, I saw a survey somewhere (I don't know where) that compared Catalina, Hunter, & Beneteau owners. Apparently Catalina owners are more likely to do their own maintenance work and spend more of the time on their boat time sailing, Hunter owners are more likely to write a check to get any work done and use their boat more for entertaining. Beneteau owners came out somewhere in the middle. NOW, before anyone gets upset I'm not bashing anyone - I just found it interesting & its results are in line with the reality at my marina.

I recently visited with a Catalina Association Rep at the Pacific Sail Expo. We were standing right next to a brand new C470. WOW!!! Anyway the Rep. shared with me that the boat had just been purchased by a couple who lived in Reno, NV and they intended on using it as a second home in the San Francisco Bay area. Didn't sound like these folks really cared whether the boat sailed or not, just liked the layout and the color.

Ed - the French have a phrase for that attitude: "chacun a son gout"
or in English "each to his taste". But a C470 just as a houseboat...jeez, what a crime!

Mark,

Something about your record of 17,285 posts, and your new title of "Master Marine Consultant," smells a little fishy, especially when one considers that your posts numbered only in the hundreds a couple of days ago.

If Gnorgan crosses your palm with the right amount of silver, could you do the same for him?

Gary,
I have 2 more years to teach, I am the Special Education Dept.Chair so I have not taught the last 3 years, it is high speed problem solving at a large diverse inner city high school, my last one out graduated at Univ. of San Francisco last year so I have my sights set on maximumn sailing, I sailed last weekend in the Fiesta Regatta, my 6th raceing event...learning like crazy, come to Austin Texas, we need teachers, you could choose your teaching assignment and Sail year round!

Consultant outranks Admiral?!? Wait'll I tell the real Admiral about that--I am a consultant!

As for my obscene number of posts, a lot come from motel rooms in places like Madison, WI (at this very moment), where I can't do much with my C-25 except rummage through the West catalog I sometimes bring along, and trade jabs with this group. Every once in a while I'll try to impart some knowledge, some of which will be incorrect, but somebody will surely protect you by pointing that out.

Hey, Steve. Don't let all these "higher ups" bug you! If they realized what Special Ed teachers had to put up with regards to the level of students you dealt with each day, they would be more respectful of your talents (thought about doing a really long run-on sentence but decided against it...need to get to sleep soon).
As far as Texas...well, I'd have to know pay scales upon transfer with 26 years of teaching high school science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Astronomy (2 years), Marine Biology, and Physical Science), coaching 9 years of basketball (girls...nearly killed me), and boys tennis.
Actually, since my boat is on Perris Lake (SoCal) I can sail all year without moving.
Wanted to go to nationals in that lake above San Antonio but the location was changed to WAY across the USA (2800 miles one way!!). Someone should have a Nationals #2 in Texas or California, same date or thereabouts. Just call it a West Regional National Race or something like it.
Another good lake looks to be Lake Pleasant just north of Phoenix, AZ. There is a website with maps/pics/etc. Now that is a good size lake to hold races. In fact, there are quite a few sailing clubs and groups there already. Check them out on the net.
Mark, looks like 100 is the next target but I might not make it due to the fact that I will be spending too much time sailing...YES!
Next time you get down this way in Riverside you need to call me up and sail on Perris Lake. You drove right by it when you got my old mainsail. Likewise, I will be heading up your way this summer so will probably need to try out your lake....Huntington in the summer, right?
10:08pm dang!!
Sailing Friday after work until sunset. Finally.
