Yes, I do realize what Special Ed teachers have to endure each day and I was not being disrespectful of anybody's talents.
IMHO who cares ? I say remove the cute little icons/tally and value each contribution based on its content. Perhaps the icons and tally features of the forum software were developed by some Gen-X'r that put far too much emphasis on status symbols. Why waste the disk space and cycles on non-sailing/non-Catalina related threads.
Mark - time to kill this thread ? It's got nothing to do with the Sailing Forum..
I have to disagree with you here. If you look, I haven't been a frequent contributor to this thread. I had a little fun yesterday commenting on how others are enjoying the rankings and by temporarily changing my ranking to tweak them. That said, I didn't have to follow the thread, and you don't either. This thread doesn't scratch the surface of our bandwidth or storage limitations. I say that we should let our visitors have fun discussing off-topic things as long as the dialogue stays civil.
I'd much rather overlook this type of good-natured banter and keep an eye out for the infrequent incivility that crops up here on occasion.
MY VOTE IS WITH MARK. WHY NOT HAVE A LITTLE FUN?
THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF REPLYS AND MANY MORE PEOPLE READING THIS TOPIC.
As you can see, I'm just new to this. You helped me get registered. I like the icons and I want a chance to work up in volume, but also in boat knowledge. Anybody who knows sailors knows they are likely to talk your arm off about their boat. And happily, most seem to have a good sense of humor, which is evident on this website.
Keep up the good work! Thanks for a great web site.
I agree with Mark. If we were to get together frequently at as an association, there would be plenty of non-boat related issues and idle chit-chat. Why shouldn't there be an occasional thread as well?
IMHO, I think we should move on and discuss a less controversial subject, like religion or politics!

Interesting contrast . . . civility isn't in my crew's vocabulary on race days. Actually, I think other boats take a different line just to avoid us !

I don't want my wife as racing crew (for the sake of our marriage) and I don't want crew muttering about the dumb move the skipper made (as I have done when I've crewed), so we just sail (sometimes alongside the race course, watching the flailing arms and listening to the yelling).
