Here is the sketch finally. I could not seem to get it to upload until now. One of my wood clips is broken also. I think the foam mattress helps hold it in place more than anything. There has to be enough slack for the hatch cover to not be in a bind. The gap must be greater than the bottom lip on the clip. Sticky back "Velcro" tape may work just as well to hold it up as it is only a cover. You could even put a couple of chocks at the bottom inside to bear the weight.
Ben, thanks for the drawing, which may clear up the problem some are having with the hatch cover.
As can be noted on Ben's drawing, there is and up and down to the hatch cover. It will go in either way, but if put in upside down, it will fall from the top out. To distinguish the up...look at the cleats on the back, one end of the cleats have deeper rabbits (some may consider these to be datos because the rabit is against the bulkhead when attached) than the other... the deeper rabbits go up.
If the ears of a rabbit get broken... a new piece should be quite easy to make as long as one relizes that the rabbit is deeper on one end.
