I got my C42 today, it was long in coming due to problems with the company (ie Catalina

) knowing when the boat would ship. That is all behind me now, just have to get bottom painted and put her in the water. Goal is to have it in by Sat. and go sailing. I am still numb from seeing and being on her, this is such a big change for me. So I am enjoying it. more to follow later.

don't drop the shroud turnbuckles on your toes!

You'll be able to keep fit running around that deck every morning!

Dare not go look at the specs on that beauty, but what draft? doesn't look much more than 4-5ft??

An A frame to lift the mast, lol...would have to be a big A frame, and then once it was up the sudden stop after it dropped inside and hit the step plate on the keel would be fun also...HEHE

The Draft is 4'10" maybe closer to 5 lol, whats 2 inchs, Loaded I think thats what will draw. well gang talk to you all later...

WOW....

I had to put on my reading specs and relook at picture number 4.
I thought those two guys were carring that mast all by themselves.

That's the Catalina party line..... Measure the distance to the bottom of the keel to the dirt, and subtract that from the distance from the dirt to a known point near the waterline.....

Then look where she sit's after you unload the groceries onto her.....

I use 5'-5"

I can't imagine what it's like to buy a new boat and only have fitting out projects to do. Not repair/renovation projects like I get when I buy used boats. But if it wasn't for used boats, I wouldn't have a boat at all.

It is tough to fathom that when something doesn't work you actually have a number to call and a warranty to cover the work.....Me - I have Allison at west marine and the 3 old guys in the bar....

Dave has it right on two counts:
About new boats leading to used boats, and those underutilized guys with timesheets.

It will be interesting to hear from Barry about what kind of warranty problems or commissioning problems he may have. I'm hoping that he has absolutely none.

Now about that Cabo Rico I'm buying when I win the powerball.........

Ok, I have had my 42 out sailing 3 times now, what a joy to sail, its been great fun, and belive it or not she handles and sails like a great big 25,

She carries a whole lot farther, little bigger turning circle, but very responsive, and smooth, lot of the same feelings that I had on my 25, she is just a little slowe to heel, little softer motion, Great fun.
as far as warrenty issues....well only 3 so far.
one is the generator, it works but shuts off early, thats because they forgot to hook it up to the thru hull, thats about hidden, for some strange reason. So working on getting that fixed.
Not all of the Raymarine intruments work, the wind is out and chartplotter is confused, I sail backwards everywhere I go.
then down below the door to master cabine is hung wrong and catchs so bad it dont even come close to closing. So they are going to shave it and then fix the catch plate. Out side of that everything seems to be working ok, so no complaints. I am just enjoying the fun of sailing when I can. One problem that I am having and its probly the tuffest one yet. I find it very hard to leave after being on her for a weekend, and when I am out sailing she has a tendency to sail south for warmer weather, I just want to keep going south and not come back...so guess thats not too bad...hehehe,

Wonderful, Barry! "...a little softer motion"?? You must not have tried her in what I'd consider some real seas!

About that door... You'd have to think it fit at the factory, which begs the question... Did something shift during shipping? I don't have a clear vision of what's there, but I'd check that the bulkhead is properly seated in its tabs on both sides of the hull and the overhead, for example. But maybe I'm wrong--maybe it never closed in the first place. Or maybe something changed when they tensioned the rig.

Anyway, for a big new machine like that, it sounds like most everything came out pretty well! Enjoy the ride!

PS: What's the line below "Captain Bear" on the transom?

The line is Best Mate Buni, special person thats come into my life, so figure she deserves a special place.
I am headed to the lake this weekend, and on monday. this weekend to learn the ins and outs of winterizeing, and monday to have a little chat with the Raymarnine guy, he is going to make here sail fwrds on the chart plotter as well as make the wind instrument tell me how fast and direction of wind...yeppeee...

so will be able to use cool things to help me sail single handed....well more later gents.

Is that a boom furler on your boat? How do you like it?

I really do like those stern perch seats. I'm going to retrofit them on my Ericson 32 in the springtime. After I buy a new wider traveler system.

Yes thats a boom furler, and its great. You have to make sure boom is right angle to furl the sail all the way day, but mark you lines and get used to what right looks like and its great. Its very nice to be able to reef every sail from the cockpit, I have an electric winch just for the boom furler, glad I do, cause its a long way to be cranking that sail up....and you have to keep it under a little tension on the way up so its handy to have....
The stern seats are very cool, my fav place to set, and on low side watch the water rush by....well, catch yall later
