Not too far from what I will refer to as "retirementS". Im on a 5 year plan to get out and be on a non stop 2-4yr trip either by car, bus, or sailboat for much of the world. As stupid as it sounds, I would love to be a liveaboard one day maybe in the Carib, working charters and boat yards, exploring remote reefs off the beaten path for surf.
This is my "training" boat and something to keep my occupied on the weekends while I save for my "getaway". I dont think I was built for cubicles
I had a 5 yr. plan 30 years ago. I met the wrong person and sunk my plan, married, raised 2 kids (24 & 25). It was a good trade. Now I' m 63, my wife is 54, and I work when it doesn't conflict with other things (1 - 2 days a week average, sometimes none). Life IS good.
Wow! For a while I thought I was the young buck at 35 but I guess not! Like a few others I have three kids 1, 7 and 8 and a wife that may never go back to work, so retirement is a dream not a plan. Lucky for me I'm climbing the corporate ladder:)!
I get a never-ending stream of grief from my 62 yr old father-in-law who just got his first boat (19' fishing boat). But I did so I could share my second favorite thing with the whole family!

Amazing, Peggy asked what was the average age of us folks here only this morning. I had completely missed this thread.. great one!
I turn 60 next year Peggy is 3 older. Sailed since the navy taught me in 1964.
Retired from Royal Navy in 1989 with a pension (American servicemen would laugh at it) In my second career working two jobs. We didn't get out last weekend (for our monthly 4 day trip) and now Peggy is getting antsy - we gotta go sailing!
Retiring early is very easy as long as you start the planning very young. I came back from SE Asia in 1968 and on the advice of a wise old uncle, stated investing . Retired at 50, and now have more income than I have EVER had when I was working.
Example...every body is fussing about gas prices. I have enough stock in a couple of oil/gas companies that when I compare what I am paying for gas versus what I am making in the stock market...I'm way way way ahead!!

Welcome from a fellow Texan. I have my boat over at the Fort Worth Boat Club. Folks in the forum just a friendly and helpful as people I've run into @ the Lake. Great asset to the sailing community, I don't think I would have ever purchased my boat had it not been for a very helpful neighbor and sailor as well as this forum. Thanks ALL!!!
