Martin, I got the boat like that. There is a simple thru-hull on the side of the coaming through which the outboard cables go through. That puts them right into the aft battery area where they go directly to the batteries. Very simple setup and no leakage at all. I will take photos this wekend.

Steve, I put stainless strap eyes on the back of the catbird seats (screwed them into the star-board seat material) for the aft bimini tiedowns.

Well, I learned something yesterday. Installed 1 side of the Bimini Butler, and then when on the other side I droped a piece of the Bimini Butler arm. It doesn't float. :-(

Going to try to ask if I could only have the missing part shipped, or I'll have to buy a complete kit again.

Well, the project is done!

Here is the U-bolt with the new backstay.

Here is the connection at the turnbuckle.

Here is a view of the catbird seat area.

I am very happy with the result. The starboard side is now completely clear which is important as it has the outboard and is the side we dock on. The port side is much, much better and the stay does not catch my life jacket and it does not obsruct the catbird seat at all. Plus the backstay is completely fair.

A note for those who will do this mod. The fitting calls for you to unwind the wire to the "core." That DOES NOT mean the single core wire. It just means to unwind the outer wires to expose the core bundle. I made the mistake and spent a couple of hours wearing a magnifying headset to get the wires all back together again. The directions are not clear at all.

Martin, here is the through-hull for the outboard electric cable as it enters the battery area. Looks like a regular plumbing through-hull.

Nice clean job Randy. I really like that U-bolt. I just still don't get why you chose to go on the port side. Either do I understand why Catalina chose that side for the new model. Does mounting it on the starboard side obstruct anyting like the engine? My kids use the ladder lots for swimming, so it was important for me to have the port side clear.

Steve, the only time we use the ladder is when we are on our cruises and need to get on/off the dink. We don't swim off the boat. Even if we did the stay is not that much in the way to be a problem. The photo is deceptive, the stay really doesn't interfere much with access to the ladder. We looked hard at the starboard side but there was too much going on over there with the outboard, our shore power, and the fact that we do our dock lines on the port side. For us the starboard location was the right choice. I can see why people who use the ladder to swim, and run about in bare feet, might chose the port side. Either way I like that it is fair and makes it much easier to move about.
