Yeah, that header bit me good. We'll see how the "modified" strategy works now. Paul, thanks load for the lat/lon link, saves me writing one! :)

Kendall - yeah, right now it looks pretty calm in that last stretch, but that's quite a ways off yet. My luck I'll be right in the thick of that and short-tacking, and it'll be the middle of the night or the server will be on hiatus!

[edit for speling...]

Anybody heard from Redeye (Bailusout) lately? Looks to be doing a Payne Stewart (pardon begged, if found offensive)...

Well, Rita IS Chinese...

I figure if I want to, I can sit back on this tack all the way back down to the "yellow brick road" if the winds remain favorable, plus I've got somewhat higher speed winds than most of the rest of the course (for now). It could be worse, I could be my friend Chris who couldn't log on, he was off to visit Bangladesh or Burma.

Oh, and I picked up nearly 50k places with my latest tack...

got locked out again this afternoon, but when back in the site had a new play area.

getting ready for the 5pm wind update, shouldn't be much of a change.

This race will be won/lost out here in the open water. Once we hit those straits it'll be a drag race to Singapore.

Can someone explain something to me? I'm presently ranked at 31116. (at 5:50 pm on Dec. 18.) Gambit Cat 25 is behind my boat (Captiva Wind) and to leeward of me (southwest of me), but shows a shorter distance than me, and is ranked 21813. How can I be physically ahead of him, and yet he is ranked higher and credited with having less distance to the goal? I see numerous boats that seem to be ranked far different from what their position on the chart would indicate. For example, V-max is also behind me and to leeward, and yet he's ranked in 10337th position. What's up with that?

Never mind! They just posted a notice explaining that they're having problems with the posted positions and with the wind update.

Yeah, something weird's going on, my friend shows me at about 90kth spot, my UI shows me at about 50kth spot, mine shows him at about 100kth, and his says 40kth or so. On the other hand Paul, according to mine, you've been leading the pack for about a day or so.

I'm sure in reality I'm way out in front...

The numbers showing the ranking are way off, but, according to the distance to the goal, I'm only 6 miles behind the lead boat, and closing fast. That's consistent with my location on the chart, and the location of the lead boat. I think I might be in first place within the next hour.

At 10:20 pm the distance to goal shows me closer to the goal than the former lead boat. Captiva Wind is at 1040 mi. and Marjordao BRA is 1041 mi from the goal. I think I just took the lead.

Steve, I just did a refresh and my UI shows you at 1115 DTF, so I wouldn't trust what you're seeing.

The standings display is still goofy. Joint Decision has been locked in at 2724 for hours. My Distance to end appears to be 992 and less than the overall leg leader. That squares with the display on my screen as well. Hovever I am in 8000th place :(

Hopefully they get it squared away before the finish.

Going north yesterday has let me roll on port all day and reel in some folks.

Good luck all.

According to the ranking I`m currently 985 miles from finish, and the #1 is at 1041 miles. I see only boats way behind me and no one in front. Yesterday I was about 3 miles away from Avocado and today I am 148 miles in front of him. I looked underneath my hull and no dolphins pushing me along.

It seems to be working this morning. I think they were having trouble from people logged in on more than one computer (guilty).

Now it is on to chasing JD and try to close a 20 mile gap.

Having the overall leaders in spitting distance is nice. They are way south so they will have to tack north much more than most of us.

sometime around when the 5pm est update was to happen yesterday I was in 8500 or so place and only 14 miles off the leader. Then since I couldn't wait around for the shift (or lack thereof) I set my boat to go slower on the expected future heading hoping it would catch the shift regardless of my presence.

Unfortuanately that didn't occur till who knows when and am now back in the 22k range and way the heck out of position and phase.

Actually I think at the 5pm wind change they crashed yesterday, and everybody logged back in. I selected myself as a friend so that I can easily see the stats on myself. sometime after I logged back in, my boat was sitting on my line and I was sailing away from it. (two boats) Sometime around 3am (don't ask how I know) they rebooted their servers.

They had big issues yesterday, with the winds and the rankings. You're boat position continued to advance, however when you checked the rankings none of the other positions moved. I couldnt figure out why I was catching the lead boat at a rate of appx 10nm/hr, at that rate I'd be in the lead by morning

Wait...that CAN'T be right; then I realized what was going on.

And of course I have no idea what time they finally got the wind corrected, so spent the overnight at less than optimum. With the L shift looks like I banged the corner, overstood the line, and am now coming in to the gate on P with 12600 of my closest friends L of me!

I'll put fenders out...

On Thursdays I'm working at a hospital w/o Internet. You may see me wander from time to time. But Oh Boy, I set myself up for a lovely tack north that time didn't I...

It's fun selecting bearings relative to when you can get online. I feel like the narcoleptic Sailor.. ( or Drunken Sailor). I wake up to see where I've wandered. Tonight I'll probably sleep on the boat and the marina is without wifi, so don't be surprised to see me run aground!

Eventually I'll probably add an air card to my laptop.
