I use the Davis Tiller Tamer with a slight modification. I run the line through the white block (spool) on the tamer without running it through the screw down portion of the TT. I have the line attached with a carabiner to the port side backstay stern ring.(I have a 250WB). On the starboard side I have a stretchable piece of 2" wide flat bungee with a carabiner on one end,(for the starboard side backstay stern ring), and a sewn in ring on the other end that I have attached to a small boat in line racing cleat. It allows me to tension and untension the Tamer with one hand in about 35/100's of a second. Just kidding but it is rather instantaneous. WHEW! Wish I could post a pic here but I am not set up for it. They really are worth a thousand words. Anyway I am out of town until next Tuesday when I could take pics and Email them to anyone interested! I'm interested in seeing your setup. Right now l've got a bungy connected to the port stern cleat, to a fitting on the end of the tiller, then to the starboard stern cleat.
I replaced the line I had. I'm going to continue working with it to see whether I can get it right.
Thank you for suggesting we look at the May 09 tech tips. I had trouble finding that article. Do you know what page it was on? Or what size Catalina it was under? Can you e-mail me at Sdraps@aol.com
Thanks, Stephen

Before you screw holes in your tiller and add a clunky piece of hardware to it you might try some of the less invasive ways of keeping the tiller in line. See the May Mainsheet Tech Tips. Bungee or line wapped around the tiller and secured to the aft cleats. If these methods don't work for you go ahead and buy the Tiller Tamer.
