I did one with JohnP. I've also sailed with Darren (djdurrett) but that doesn't count as his boat is in the slip next to me.

I think two here, and a few near-misses. (I lose track--there've been a lot of non-association visitors...) Keep trying--I'm seconds off I-95 in one of New England's greatest spots!

This is from a plane directly over my home. The historic Mystic Seaport is on the left bank just below center ...although it doesn't look quite like this now!

I sailed with Jim Baumgart in San Diego (before the Port Captain program).

I've hosted one. I'd love to go sail some other places, but I'm often sailing here, or biking, or running, or off scuba diving.

What I want to do is rent one sometime out of Miami. I need to start studying the charts.

I have sailed with 3 members, 2 in my home state of CA and one in Seattle, WA. If I could get away more often, I would be hitting you all up, including you Chris! This is one of the best perks of our Association.

PS John P and I just got back from a weekend trip to Catalina Island on Super Bowl Weekend. He has sailed with me on 3 occasions.

Kudos to Ed Spengeman for the idea! The concept had developed informally--Jim Baumgart was a pioneer with his open invitations--but formalizing and publicizing it enhanced the association.

I have not had anyone come to my port nor have I arranged any visits specifically via the Port Captain's Thread but I have gotten together with John P twice on his boat on the Magothy River and he has been down my way one time on the Potomac River.

I have visited Dave Bristle twice. Once my wife and I were driving on our way from Virginia to visit a friend of mine in Plymouth Mass and we stopped in Mystic Seaport on the way. Dave gave us a sightseeing tour of Mystic Harbor aboard his boat. Then, sometime later, I had a business trip to Groton, Conn staying a few nights at a hotel in Mystic Seaport. Dave and I were able to go out for dinner during my stay there.

And of course I would take you out!! I'm not sure if my post in the port captains thread says so, but we are a semi-convenient stop on teh way to the North Channel, and we have trailer parking on-site.

ETA: Hmmmm - a C-25 flotilla cruise in southern G-bay with th eoption to continue up to the chanel could make for an interesting summer adventure. Of course if we end up moving/moving the boat scratch the plan, but if not...

Zero for me. Our club's first regatta this year will be April 2-3. The C-22 fleet is hosting it, and I'm the regatta chairman. I'll be sailing in the C-22 fleet with a friend, but if any of you would like to come to Nashville and race my C-22, please let me know. As long as the winds are scheduled to be under 20 mph, I'll be happy to take it out there and set it up. You would, of course, be responsible for your own regatta expenses and liable for any damages to the boat, etc.
The C-25 might be available for day sailing and a spectator boat. Don't know about that yet, however.

I'll be sailing out of Milford, CT this summer, with easy access over to New Haven and Port Jeff Long Island.
Anybody passing by on I-95 would be quite pleasantly surprised to learn how nice the Milford Town Green and Seaport are.
Nothing like the fabled Mystic or Newport seaports mind you, but cozy and friendly. Also, let me know ahead what your preferred adult beverage is.

I've hosted two members in the past few years, and had to turn one down because SL was still sitting on the side of the house being repainted. I felt pretty bad about that. I've yet to have a chance to sail with anyone on their boat.

I'll tell you David G, it's a cool thing to get on somebody elses boat and see what they've done with it, see how they sail it in comparison to your own. I would highly recommend it!

I hosted one (John Vining) before the "port captains" program started. None since, but then, I really didn't expect to since I live as far north in Michigan as you can go. A real stretch for most people to get here. It's a shame because we have great sailing on Lake Superior and the Portage Lake water shed, which connects to "the big lake" by shipping canal.

I would now like to admit that I'm sorry for bribing Ed Spengeman into proposing this scheme.

No, seriously, I may be the only association member who travels 3 to 4 times a year for work, so I have this great opportunity to crew on others' boats. I feel really lucky! The truth is that I actually don't know Ed at all.

Chris, if you lived near Montreal instead of Toronto, I'd probably get to sail with you when visiting my wife's family, too!

And coming up in June, for example, I have to fly from DC to Miami for a 2-day conference that could leave me with a day to go sailing. But I think there are no Association Members in that area who would be available to go for a day sail. (Paul has told us about his cruises, but also about the many hours of prepping for trailering the 90 miles to the marina on Biscayne Bay.)

Any suggestions?

Is Sten cruising back North and sailing near Miami? Maybe one of you has a connection in Miami for me. I promise to post pix.

And I have been really surprised that folks visiting DC have not taken advantage of the 3 or 4 or 5 Association Members who sail on the Chesapeake and the Potomac. Come on! Drop your family off at the Smithsonian and come for a sail on the Bay!

Mike Harmer (Unsinkable2) said he might make a sailing date with me for this May. I should have my anchor light fixed by then, for sure, and my new mp3 player installed, too!

I have also not visited anyone, or been visited- though I came close with my Mystic cruise last year. I'm not an association member per se, but your welcome to come sailing with me out of Norton's Marina in picturesque E. Greenwich RI not far from Newport, Bristol RI etc.. We are also not far from I95. There are some untrammeled islands and some wonderful little port towns like Wickford within an hour's sail.

pasailor hosted my wife, son, and me on his C250 when I was vacationing on his lake last summer. We had a wonderful time and compared notes, and I hope he's available to get together again next summer when we're in the area.

JohnP - When are you in Montreal and what is your schedule like? Its only about 5 hours away ;)

You could fly into YYZ and spend a day sightseeing in Hogtown before heading to Montreal. (I need crew that week - hell, I need crew every week)

I had a visitor in Pensacola Beach, not Lake Erie. We didn't get to go sailing on Pearl and the dense morning fog prevented them from appreciating the natural beauty of the area, but we had a great lunch at Peg Leg Pete's.

We'll be posting our cruising schedule in the cruising forum shortly.
Rough plan is for late June. Sail from Biscayne Bay to the outside via Angel fish creek, down towards Ilseamorada (or further) back in to the bayside, then up the Bays and back to Biscayne Bay. Estimate is around 10-12 days onboard. Launch from Blackpoint Marina.

Stay tuned for details and let's see if there are any meetup ops.

Hi this is Ed Spengeman. Any calls for me. I made the suggestion based on the Power Squadrons pert captain progam offering insight to local areas. At the time Dan Happ pointed out he was coming to Indy. We did a tour of the club, a look at the boat and dinner. Crappy weather and timing issues. We had a good time so I posited it to management. If it worked once, it will have been worth the effort.

btw, I'll be in St Pete for 2 wks toward the end of may if anyone needs ballast.

I Just got back from a 3 day cruise, and I'm hooking up the trailer and going north on Monday. Lesson learned after dropping the hook 4 times: don't haul the anchor in AL without a washdown system installed or a hazmat suit.
