Dave: I cannot speak to the later models, but both the 1985 model and the 2000 are exactly the same. Remove a "clip-pin" once the cowl is off, then unscrew a knob. No tools, no sweat. I don't know why they'd have messed with that slick system with newer ones. I have no digital camera to take pics and I am a techno-dinosaur anyway, or I'd show ya.
BTW: Just finished a 3 week cruise in the San Juan Islands and Gulf Islands of BC. I have autopilot, radios, CDs, lights, usual stuff. Never had to worry about the battery bank (2 deep cycles); the Yamaha has always kept them hot, but one must do some motoring in this area due to tough currents and fluky winds. i always have to motor more than half the time....It's a rare day that I can sail all day, although one whole afternoon we had nearly perfect conditions for 1 reef and a 130 jenny.
